#1 / Breakfast and Dinner

Here we go with painting number one of a series of daily paintings which I hope will see one painting a (week)day come out of the studio, the objective being to improve with each new painting.

I promised my son that I'd keep weekends free for him, so I shall be playing Cricket and Football and Rugby and making paper aeroplanes and doing homework and all the other things that fathers are meant for on Saturdays and Sundays...

After I had emptied the contents of the little egg into the small frying pan and put the remaining shell on the kitchen counter, I saw the sunlight shining through it and wanted to try to capture the glow and warmth and the crisp colours. The sprout had fallen the night before in the rush to cook dinner, and remembering the paintings of one of my former tutors, also one of my favourite artists and inspirations, Claudia Carr. I thought that the juxtaposition of the two unrelated objects (other than the fact that they are foods) would spark some kind of narrative for the observer to mull over.
