#13 / Fennel
I always have the paintings of one of my former tutors and favourite artists, Claudia Carr in mind when I set a still life up. Her considered application of line, tone and colour are brilliant, her finished pieces are poetic and hauntingly beautiful other-worldly landscapes. I envy her commitment to painting and hope that I can bring some of that utter immersion into my own practice.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to help with one of her exhibitions in Notting Hill, London where I did my best to help promote her work to the buying public, though to be fair she didn't need me to help, the work speaks for itself.
Her paintings of fennel bulbs stick in the memory particularly as it was a series of these I saw when last I went to one of her exhibitions in London. So it was very much in this spirit that I embarked upon this painting.
